Oliver's Army is here to stay, Oliver's Army is the latest craze!

"There's a new hit show assaulting our screens soon. Thrill to the adventures of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver as he leads a bunch of raw, ordinary, everyday recruits into the most harrowing adventure of their lives: the front lines in the War on Terror!. In these troubled times, anyone may have to answer the call and stand up to the Islamo-fascists, and declare with a gun in hand "The slaughter stops now and the line in the sand is being drawn right HERE!" all the while spraying them indiscriminately with shots from their AK's (totally in self-defence, of course).

In the grand tradition of Jamie's Kitchen, 'General' Oliver is recruiting former streetbums and drug addicts and giving them a second chance in life as well as the opportunity and fame of being cannon fodder on the most brutal, and important, reality show ever. War is hell, and the troops in Oliver's Army have the missing limbs to prove it. Thank their personal deities that they are at least assured of some good tucker. Otherwise it would just be inhumane."

But yeah, Olberman knows teh score. His commentaries regarding Rummy and the 'Nazi appeasers' comments he made were spot on and really deconstructed Bush, Penguin/Cheney, Rummy and co.

hey dude,

not sure if you're into youtube.com or not? But anyway, having no tv for a long time, Ive become a bit of an addict, definately a facinating "new" media form thats rising up - anyway, for a while Ive been watching these clips by a chick that goes by the name of Lonelygirl15... anyway, basically her 2 videos form a kinda story line, started watching a few months ago, and the story got relatively interesting - anyway, this girl's vlogs got soo popular she made it into the nytimes, latimes etc etc and had millions of subscribers / viewers every day... slowly the rumours began that her videos were "too professional" and that really it was all fake, and was some kinda lead in to some future horror movie.

To begin with I didn't know what to think, but it was very interesting - this girl had a picture of Crowley on her wall... many speculations were formed after that - so it went on for a few weeks , debates, was it real or fake... I was interested, because, if it was fake, then, it was very cool, a new type of media, kinda like a real interactive show, were the viewers basically decide the storyline - anyway, as of yesterday, some crazy nerds did some crazy nerd internet sleuthing and discovered this girls past.... and it was revealed that it all was fake. Its a facinating story thats all over the web right now - check it out if you have time - just do a search for Lonelygirl15... even better, check out the 2 minute videos on youtube first, then see the hysteria that came out of this really simple concept. This is the youtube profile, from which you can watch all 30 clips, and see how the story unfolded; http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=lonelygirl15

What I am wondering is, will the popularity remain now that the show has been proven "fake"? It's interesting, def. one of the most popular things on the net right now...

Anyway, why am I telling you all this you maybe asking? Well, I know you and your concepts for comics/book/ possible film/shows (you know what I mean) and I just thought Id bring to light this new medium for ya, that I think, could really serve the new "up and coming" independant kinda people like yaself out there... maybe you're already onto it, if not, check it out, I think it will interest you.

Peace,

Matt

It's the first I've heard of this, but it is fairly interesting.

I think the market/world is ripe for fiction and art being pitched using these guereilla (for lack of a better term) techniques. Just because movies have normally been made as big productions with a crew of hundreds doesn't mean that you can't make a smaller scale movies, just using smarer techniques to worker smarter not harder.

And following on, using different techniques to pitch your work into the consumer's attention. You could have completely fictional framework available online that ties in and adds value to the normal work that you are pimping. You can sort of see this with the Lost Experience, but there is the scope for it to become a lot more sophisticated and complex. Take a look at 52thecomic.com for an example of this.

A bit of background as to what Oliver's Army is a reference to. I'm taking the song as is (let's call it a 'readymade'. I know the score, Duchamp), but giving it new meaning. Po-mo working at it's best.

Nah, he's uk based... (I think) - His 'controversial' art has made headlines around the world - i recall seeing some of his stuff in the paper - back in Perth. Amongst a few of the 'arty' foreigners here he's caused a bit of a buzz - just thought I'd throw the name out to see whether the ssor had caught wind...

On another note, I got a hold of that british series you mentioned, abs. power - about a month ago now - have watched 5 episodes... its reasonable - not as obsessed as I was with Lost, One show I don't miss an episode of though is Prison Break - its cheesy comercial tv crap really, but, like Lost is very addictive.

Lonelygirl caused a bit of a stir in the US - great promotion for youtube, she was on Leno... will be interesting to see if Colbert bites.

Got rained on, on the way to work today - Japanese rain is about the size of $2 coins sometimes, and on this occasion it was - thus, I had to ride home and get changed. But I rode laughing to myself "Im soaking wet, and my class has started and I don't care, he he he he - it was liberating.)

Peace.

Also, I wasn't going to mention this til I'd finished, but since my flight from Perth to Tokyo, I've been at work on- well, a work of fiction, not sure whether it'll turn out to be a short story / longer story or whether it's aimed at adults or children. But, when I gain the confidence I'll post a sample chapter for you to read. The central character is a guy named Christopher Scott (original?) - and his home town is a little place called Middle Vale - rest assured the resemblances end there - I think. ;)

Must rest now, for another tough day of pimpin' the language.

Peaceness.

Hang on I know this story, its about a little Indian kid who like a decrepit weed growing up amidst a rough and tumble concrete neighbourhood stumbles upon a mysterious vagabond known only as the ‘Horse’.

Eccentric and mysteriously powerful the Horse takes our little Indian friend named Christopher Scott on a whirlwind adventure through the slums of Middle Vale, unlocking the hoods occult secrets like only he can.

After romance and adventure from the top of the Recreation centre roof right to the very depths of the fiery Great Eastern HWY chasms, Horse and Christopher face their liquorice legged nemesis Melder Morningstar in a gruelling battle on a Super Nintendo…only one player will walk away from.

Rollie smoke and Role playing adventure permeate this story’s remarkable climax as Christopher discovers in true zen revelation, that if you see the Horse on the road…YOU MUST KILL HIM!

Look out for Christopher’s Horse on the steps of a Midland Ace cinema near you!

It's up to Episode three, and Hiro, the Japanese dude able to bend space and time and teleport is my favorite - Yata!!!!!!!! Check it, d/l it!

I've heard about it, but I'm not too sure if I'll make time to watch it. Not sure if I want to watch stories that I've already read/experienced in a better, purer form as they were done originally ya know. Why listen to a bad cover version of Wanted... when you can listen to the original JonBon. I'll probably catch it when they start showing it here, whenever that will be. Too busy downloading Lost and Colbert Report at the moment.

Bending time powers are always a plus to any story that they feature in though.

If you want super-hero pop, this is/will be the nouveau shit:

Hey Bro,

Improving your d/l speeds is not an easy thing to do - particularly when living in Australia which has such crappy speeds... But, try using Azureus, its a bit better than BitTorrent, also, look for torrents with high seeders, and also, set your upload speed at, at least 1/3 of download speed... hmm, other than that, I don't really have any advice - thats one thing thats gonna suck about coming back to Perth, the internet speeds... oh well.

Also, dude, I stumbled across on heaps of Micallef on Youtube - there's quite a few linked from here;

Hey Bro,

from my experience with download accells - they are rubbish... they do more bad to your computer than good (from what Ive heard and experienced) as they are normally packaged with hidding tracking files. So, my advice, stay away. Patience young Jedi. I just bought an ipod and I demand that you watch Heroes when you get a chance... after you recover from your downloaded insanity.
