Our story is an illusion we think into existence

Post by Osiris
Story, fable, myth and metaphor are often created to encourage love and understanding. Some elicit fear and extremism. The potential for stories to heal what ails humankind or to keep us stuck in anxiety and worry, is both a tool of the human potential movement and a primary instrument of personal and institutional propaganda. In both instances, story appears to be enjoying a renaissance. The finest stories are signposts, pointing toward a deeper reality within the teller and listener. Counter-productive stories come from and feed upon the fears and ignorance existing within our memories, our cultural story. The threat to our freedom inherent in propaganda (though often more transparent) is the same in the very stories that inspire us to seek liberation.Even on the lookout to reinforce our world view, we gobble up words that speak to our fears and fantasies. We seek comfort in the known and in so doing stay stuck in our story. Even in stories which contain a map to our transformation (no matter how beautifully created, crafted and told) the deeper point, the essence of the message; is generally missed. The story is subsumed into our story, adding to our accumulation but naught to our wisdom and common sense becoming one more chapter in an expanding myth in which we stay trapped. Those stories, that trap, we give all sorts of descriptions: reality, my life, how I am, the way I was born, my upbringing, my nationality, religion, etcetera.Listen! We are not our story neither our past, present, nor future story. Our life is not the story we make up about it and yes, it hasn¹t to do with this story either. Our story is an illusion we think into existence, nothing more, appearing in our mind as reality. Our present reality, no matter what that is, is the story we are imprisoned in. And ever shall it remain so until we wake up from that dream.Who we are exists before, and is hidden from us by the story we create ourselves, about others; about each and every aspect of life, our past (from a nanosecond ago back to our beginning) manifesting as experiences, opinions, beliefs, ideas, philosophies and values around all that we consider good or evil, right or wrong, what we think works and what we think matters. All stories in which we innocently ensnare ourselves. We are the victims of our own story, and being lost in it we see ourselves as the victim, not of our story, but of the past, current, or future circumstances of our life, the way we tell ourselves it is. The way out of victim hood is awakening to our certitude in stories (ours or others) being thetruth; rather than the illusion we inhabit. Freedom comes as we realise that truth does notexist in stories, not even those based firmly in verifiable circumstances, scientifically provenfact or millennia of religious faith. The truth is not the story. The truth lies within the soul ofeach of us. Universal in nature, pure in essence, exquisite in feeling, magnificent in its powerto transform. All human stories masquerade as truth, including my statement about the truthlying within the soul of each of us and the description of truth I just made up. That too is justa story! Truth is independent of story. In waking up from the trap of our endless stories we become conscious of LIFE'S infinitepossibilities. Possibilities exist as a priori to any story. In that awakening, we begin to see andunderstand how we have trapped ourselves in story. We start to gain clarity around IFE and the game of living. A deeper reality emerges, impossible to express even in the finest story.Who we really are starts to unfold, and all that we have yearned for and been separatedfrom by our endless stories begins to be experienced. In a glimpse of a reality that precedes the formation of our stories we recognise thateverything, absolutely everything, emanates from LIFE's infinite possibilities; including everystory ever told. We see that each new possibility comes into existence from LIFE viaThought, consciously experienced, in each fresh, creative moment. We see too thatimpossibility comes via Thought, recreated from a bygone moment held in memory, carriedthrough time, solidified in story, fable, myth and metaphor and re-experienced,(unconsciously), as the past relived in the moment. As the human expression of LIFE, we begin discovering that nothing is beyond us either infinite possibility as a conscious reality or the impossibility of story unconsciously relived. The infinite possibilities of LIFE are who I am, you are, we are and they are. To actually seebeyond our story, before accumulation, the illusion of right/wrong, good and evil, doing whatwe think works or what we think matters; invokes freedom. Freedom to love rather thanfear, understand instead of judge, create not destroy, open up not close down, embracerather than reject - live in peace and harmony rather than enmity and war.Living in a story (be it comforting or traumatic) rather than in the creative moment is not problematic - as long as we see that we are the thinker and feeler, the creator of the storywe are living. As long as we see that our moment to moment reality (created via the gift ofThought) is not the truth. The pathway to a liberated mind comes through understandingthat crucial aspect of Consciousness. There are no answers to be found in our story, this or any other story, however factually trueor painfully tragic. Look within your quietened mind and your softened heart. These are thegateways to Universal Consciousness, the soul of the universe. The answers we seek await us there. This is my story

Hmm,
Interesting read... however, I feel it was a bit repetative... feel a point that could have been summarised in 4 lines has been 'waffled' out to 100...
Just some constructive criticism.
In fact, having now read this post, I challenge you to summarise it it into 4 lines.
And what exactly are you implying by the word story? do you mean literature? narrative? maybe spoken word? or just language? I'm a little confused...
Also, are these all your ideas? If so, what's up with the use of the words 'your' and 'our'... Otherwise, this would be a lot stronger had references been made, for example:
"Story, fable, myth and metaphor are often created to encourage love and understanding."
Really, says who? I would like to see some reference to critical analysis of stories, fable, myth and metaphor, all of which are completely inividual and unique from each other...
"Our present reality, no matter what that is, is the story we are imprisoned in."
Really? I'll speak for myself thanks! and I disagree.
Listen! We are not our story neither our past, present, nor future story. Our life is not the story we make up about it and yes, it hasn¹t to do with this story either.
What? Disagree again. Think in terms of a science experiment, there is more than just the independant variable.
"Freedom comes as we realise that truth does not exist in stories, not even those based firmly in verifiable circumstances, scientifically provenfact or millennia of religious faith. The truth is not the story. The truth lies within the soul ofeach of us. Universal in nature, pure in essence, exquisite in feeling, magnificent in its powerto transform."
This is good, though I feel truth can be gained through storytelling. The truth is in each of us... But! Truth to me, is NOT necessarily Truth to you and vice versa.
"In a glimpse of a reality that precedes the formation of our stories we recognise thateverything, absolutely everything, emanates from LIFE's infinite possibilities"
And what exactly is life then? is this a pantheistic comment?
"These are thegateways to Universal Consciousness, the soul of the universe. The answers we seek await us there"
Great, the soul of the universe. sounds like Mother Nature or something to me, makes me think of Captain Planet... what about the Father, who holds the very universe in the palm of His hand?
I'm sorry if I have been overly critical of this, it just seemed to me to, for a whole bunch writing, not really "say" very much...? Maybe I'm just frustrated because it made no sense to me.
If it's any consolation, it made crystal-clear sense to me.
But hey, I like convoluted yet simple shit, as in preferably both at the same time. (Rock of Ages I'm lovingly looking at you)
"I assumed you wouldn't understand it"
What's with an assumption such as this?
Is there some understanding or revelation given to agnostics, deeming the rest of us incapable of your enlightened comprehension?
I find it difficult to understand how I can comprehend the writings of Aquinis for example, even Plato (if I strain my brain hard enough) and be utterly lost when reading this?
Your questionable assumptions seem to swing between rationalism and impirialism, Which is it Osiris? What big philosophical assumptions are you implying here?
Thanks Benjimen,
then please, enlighten me?

There is no need for you to make assumptions concerning my comprehension of text.
Truthfully, I do understand what is written here.
I just do not agree with ALL of it.
When I say "I don't understand" I am merely trying to elicit a little more clarity from the author. I think an author should be able to say in a sentence what they are implying in a book...
For example, you could have responded with on of your closing statements such as:
"as long as we see that we are the thinker and feeler, the creator of the story we are living... and our story is not the truth...the gateways to Universal Consciousness can be found within the quietened mind and softened heart"
Yesterday's a memory
Another page of history
Sell yourself for hopes and dreams
That leave you feeling sideways
Tripping over my own feet
Trying to walk to my own beat
Another car out on the street
Trying to find the highway
Hey, are you going my way?
This is the story of my life
And I write it everyday
I know it isn't black and white
And it's anything but gray
I know that no, I'm not alright
But I'll be OK ‘cause
Anything can, everything can happen
That's the story of my life
Bon Jovi - Story of my life (new song)
Ah, the man who chided me for once using a Beatles song to illustrate a point, using a Bon Jovi song to illustrate a point. Irony, do we meet at last?
I have nothing to enlighten you about Stayhuman, just that the text speaks for itself, IMO. Re-read it. Maybe re-read it again. And again if you need to. Just because you do not understand something, or rather not agree with it, does not mean it is not valid. Because, hey, the world's square, not round, right?
I agree with you in that you should be able to get a clear idea from just reading something, rather than have to be versed in a multitude of things to understand it. Again IMO, the post seemed to flow logically, in that it all connects and makes sense, and most important of all, there are no great leaps in logic that underpin it, meaning that if you just follow along and read it and understand it, that should be it. There's no need for mental gymnastics to be performed while reading it as far as I can recall.

Watch out for the continuity breakers, hey!? (That needs elaboration. It's a line from the Filth, from when they raid the paperverse, literally going into the comicbook, and it's a warning to look out for the advertisements in the comic that disrupt the flow of the narrative. That is beyond genius.)

No, your boy, Jay Z!
It has nothing to contribute to the discussion, just a few killer lines. Another one is:
My best friend says she used to fuck with Usher.
Ohhh. Burn.
That's Kayne West.
its from his remix of Ray charle's 'Golddigger'...
if my memory serves me...
Why have I replied in multiple comments?
And something of interest:
For Robbie fans, his website http://www.whatsyourfuture.com/ is letting everyone listen to all of Intensive Care, track by track each day. So..for those of you apprehensive about this new Rob sound, go and check it out.
I must say, I am impressed by the design of his site!
Yeah, the Usher line is from Gold Digger and the Jay Z bit from the remix of Diamonds from Sierra Leone.
I must say, I am impressed by the design of his site!
Even the sigils? Robbie is the new Luke Skywalker with Grant Morrison neo-Obi-Wan Kenobi. Or is Robbie Anakin?
Can you see the Joker fly Over, like she is in a field of clover?

How can you laugh when you know I'm down
(How can you laugh) When you know I'm down.

Don't you know that I'm down (I'm really down)
Down on the ground (I'm really down)
Don't you know that I'm down (I'm really down)
Down, down, down.
